Shillong: The India Meteorological Department expects heavy rain across Guwahati for the next three days. Officials predict between 6 and 12 centimeters of rain every 24 hours. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority warned this could trigger flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides.
The agency issued a blunt warning to the public. "In view of the situation, people of Guwahati city have to remain vigilant," the statement read. Officials asked commuters to avoid unnecessary travel and urged employers to let staff work from home until the skies clear.
Reports indicate four people suffered injuries during a landslide in the Kharguli area. While officials work to verify those details, the city remains on edge. Several areas saw flooding on Monday after a night of intense downpours.
Multiple landslides have already hit the Guwahati revenue circle. Problem spots include the main road near Prashanti Lodge, Kamakhya Colony, Paschim Kamakhya, Pandu temple ghat, and Maligaon. Authorities warned that they may regulate traffic heading toward the Kamakhya temple to prevent accidents on the crumbling roads.
