Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department issued a 24-hour heavy rainfall warning for Guwahati on Saturday, August 8. The advisory started at 8:30 am and remains active until 8:30 am on August 9. Expect trouble. Forecasters predict light to moderate rain of up to 6 cm, with some isolated spots hitting 7 cm to 11 cm.
Severe weather brings real risks. Thunderstorms and lightning will likely lash the region. Water will pool in low-lying areas and underpasses, slowing down traffic and dragging out commute times. Visibility will drop. Heavy rain threatens to cut power lines and halt ferry and boat services across the city.
The agency warned that saturated ground plus strong winds could topple trees. Landslides and mud slips remain a threat in the hilly districts. Authorities urged the public to stay cautious. "Residents have been advised to remain alert and closely monitor weather updates and advisories issued by the authorities."
Stay home if you can. Drivers must avoid slippery roads and areas prone to flooding. Keep off the streets during the worst of the storms and seek cover immediately if thunder rolls.
