Aizawl: The Mizoram government issued Rs 3.41 crore to 683 beneficiaries on September 15. This funding represents the third round of the second phase of the Chief Minister’s Special Package under the Bana Kaih handholding scheme. Every progress partner receives Rs 50,000 via direct benefit transfer.
Selected individuals hail from 12 departments including horticulture, fisheries, tourism, sports, sericulture, animal husbandry, and veterinary services. State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister P C Vanlalruata oversaw the disbursement. He emphasized that the state picked recipients regardless of political ties. He warned that those who ignore their project commitments face full recovery of the funds.
Aizawl Additional Deputy Commissioner Vanlalrova issued a stern reminder to the group. He noted the initiative is not a handout. "The Chief Minister's Special Package was not intended as a programme for distributing free money," he said. Departments will track projects to ensure the cash helps farmers, labourers, and small-scale entrepreneurs.
Misuse of money triggers penalties. Recipients already completed orientation training to prepare for their specific projects. The Bana Kaih scheme bridges the gap for those lacking access to institutional credit. It assists with loans reaching Rs 50 lakh through three partner banks. For the 2026-27 financial year, the government set aside Rs 350 crore for the program. This includes Rs 150 crore specifically for crop procurement to bolster local market prices.
