Kohima: Nagaland Science and Technology Advisor Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu pushed for non-violent resistance during the 12th Pochury Black Day Memorial Cup. He spoke at Meluri Local Ground on September 15. The official urged citizens to avoid picking up arms against India. Azo noted that the path to sovereignty requires diplomatic reasoning. "Nagas must fight our battle through a non-violent policy," he said.
The event commemorates the trauma of the Naga freedom struggle. Locals recall violent acts against villages like Phor, Yisi, and Matikhrü. Azo described past beheadings and sexual violence by the 16th Punjab Regiment as unforgivable. He asked the Pochury community to leave vengeance to God. The advisor cited Romans 12:19 to advocate for Christian forgiveness.
Solidarity messages echoed throughout the memorial tournament. Naga Students' Federation Vice President Vimeyiekho Vitso honored the sacrifice of late Matikhrü Village Chief Thah. He quoted the leader: "It's a man's pride, no surrender, no compromise for our birthright." Vitso called for a unified Naga homeland.
Sümi Kiphimi Küqhakulu President Hipito Achumi stated the games strengthen bonds between the Sümi and Pochury people. He wants peace across the region. Pochury Students' Union President Rongley Leyri noted the tournament serves as a vital reminder of shared history. The event encourages the community to uphold its identity through sport and unity.
