Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma challenged the state to become the engine for the Indian national futsal team. He spoke in Aizawl on July 31. His goal is to produce players who can carry India to the FIFA Futsal World Cup. The Chief Minister addressed the crowd at a felicitation event for the Tlangnuam Futsal Club. The team recently secured its first national title by winning the AIFF Futsal Championship 2025-26.
Lalduhoma pushed the players and the Mizoram Football Association to aim higher. He said, "Mizoram should aspire to produce players who can become the backbone of the Indian national team and help the country qualify for, and excel at, the FIFA Futsal World Cup." He warned the squad that this championship win must not be their final destination. The Chief Minister wants them focused on the AFC Futsal Asian Cup before targeting the global stage.
The government is backing this push with money and policy. Sports development ranks high for the administration. It was among the first sectors to receive funding through the state flagship Bana Kaih scheme. Officials are building new football infrastructure and upgrading current facilities. The Chief Minister praised the Mizoram Football Association for its work to grow the sport across the state.
