Kohima: Health and Family Welfare Minister Paiwang Konyak arrived in Mon on Saturday to assess the wreckage left by recent floods and landslides. He immediately pushed officials to stay on high alert for waterborne diseases. The risk is real. Stagnant floodwater has poisoned local wells, leaving Tizit town residents with a severe shortage of clean drinking water.
Konyak convened a strategy session with Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak, Police Superintendent Kanchan Kumar Kandpal, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Supongmenla, and District Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Aman Konyak. The minister handed over 3 lakh rupees to the CMO to boost emergency medical stocks. He demanded status reports from the hospital every six hours without fail.
Dr. Aman Konyak reported that landslides severed road access to several villages, causing a drop in patient traffic at the district hospital. CMO Dr. Supongmenla confirmed current medicine supplies are being tracked. During the meeting, the minister specifically warned staff against filing false relief claims. Addressing the ongoing public health threat, the minister stated: "Konyak directed health officials to remain vigilant against possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases in the aftermath of the floods."
