Shillong: The Meghalaya Board of School Education launched a pilot for the Holistic Progress Card on Thursday. The board hosted an orientation session at its regional office in Shillong. This move aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and the Ministry of Education’s PARAKH framework. It kills the focus on rote memorization. Educators now prioritize skill mastery over standard exam results.
Executive Chairman DD Sangma and Chief Academic Officer Dr. EJE Shongwan led the meeting. They explained that students must now prove their understanding through practical tasks, projects, and real-world applications. The board stated the new model "moves away from rote learning."
The framework rests on three pillars. Formative assessment tracks classroom progress to fix learning gaps. Metacognitive assessment pushes students to handle self and peer evaluations. Summative assessment serves as a final milestone for measuring actual competency. District School Education Officers will lead the pilot, while principals and nodal teachers manage the staff.
The pilot reaches all 12 districts and roughly 40 to 50 per cent of C&RD blocks. State resource persons held technical briefings and gathered feedback during the day-long session. The board plans to use this trial to solve logistical and technical problems before it rolls out the system across the entire state.
