Shillong: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui warned students to temper their ambition with patience. He spoke Saturday at the 91st Foundation Day of Lady Keane College in Shillong. Rymbui noted that today’s youth are daring but struggle with confusion. They rush. They often fail to pick one clear path.
He told the audience, "Today’s youth are ambitious, daring and willing to venture into new fields, but at the same time they are very impatient." Rymbui argued that governments must listen to young people instead of just building infrastructure. He urged students to use digital tools with purpose. Technology changes how they learn, but clear messages still matter.
The Director of Higher and Technical Education, H.D.B. Sangma, praised the college as a beacon for women. She highlighted that learning now requires adaptability in fields like artificial intelligence and biotechnology. Sangma noted that the National Education Policy 2020 pushes for multidisciplinary study. She insisted that character and competence matter more than simple degrees.
Principal-in-Charge A.M. Shangpliang opened the event. The college celebrated 91 years with a flag hoisting and anthem. Faculty members with 25 years of service received recognition. Officials also honored meritorious students, the Students' Cell, and the PWD Cell. They released two academic magazines, the Keanean Journal of Arts and the History Department annual edition. Students performed traditional routines. The day closed as guests inaugurated a new sanitary incinerator and vending machine for the campus.
