Centre Clears Backlogged SSA Teacher Salaries in Meghalaya

Shillong: Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui confirmed on Friday that the central government released long-overdue salary funds for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers. The Centre failed to provide its share of the pay since April. Teachers only received the state government’s portion of their wages during that period.

Rymbui pressed the issue during a July 22 and 23 meeting with other education ministers. He secured a promise from the union education minister to clear the debt within one week. The government made good on that commitment. Rymbui stated, “batanggimin April jaonin dormaha on·anio ma·mongni share ba ma·mongni on·enggipako man·sokujachim, ua somoirangni gisepon a·dok sorkarini bakkosan teacher-rangna on·aha.”

The arrival of these federal funds clears the way for immediate payment. Officials will now disburse the pending salary totals for May, June, and July. The release brings long-awaited relief to the state teaching staff.
