Meghalaya Assembly Secretariat Mandates Formal Dress Code

Shillong: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat has rolled out a strict dress code and conduct policy for all staff. Officials took action on July 29 after workers started showing up in inappropriate gear like slippers and casual wear. The new directive mandates a professional appearance to curb rising indiscipline.

Staff can no longer wear cargo pants, track pants, leggings, or printed T-shirts. Skin-tight or revealing clothing is off-limits. Employees must also stop playing games or loud music on devices while on the clock. Alcohol and gambling remain strictly banned on office grounds.

Attendance is now mandatory by 11 am every working day. Violators face disciplinary action in their Annual Confidential Report. Assembly Secretary Malthus Sangma refused to comment on the document because the version circulating online lacked a signature. However, Secretariat employees confirmed the order is active. One staff member noted it is a necessary step to uphold the "dignity of the institution."
