Guwahati: The Manipur government is hiring 2,720 new personnel for the Police Department. This move aims to fix chronic manpower shortages across the force. Government spokesperson and Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam Singh confirmed the decision following a recent Cabinet meeting. Five percent of these new slots are reserved for meritorious sportspersons. Officials expect the official recruitment notification to drop shortly.
Job creation remains a top priority for the administration. The state previously approved the hiring of 1,114 primary teachers on August 21 under a centrally sponsored scheme. Another 742 roles across nine different categories remain in the works.
Violence now plagues a local National Highway blockade. Drivers have suffered injuries as the standoff escalates. Authorities are currently negotiating with the agitators to clear the road. Radheshyam Singh urged protesters to remain peaceful. "Everyone has the right to raise democratic form of agitation. However, people should not indulge in violent activity," he said.
