Imphal: The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) slammed the Manipur Police for conducting midnight raids on the homes of its leadership. Members labeled the move a clear effort to intimidate those heading their democratic movement. The group held a press conference at the Citizens Club in Wangkhei Soibam Leikai to address the tactics.
Convenor Jitendra Ningomba questioned the necessity of these late-night operations. He insisted police should simply request meetings instead of staging intrusive searches. "Instead of such searches, the police can formally call us to have a talk. We are ready for that," Ningomba said.
Co-convenor Sunil Karam detailed the intensity of the inspections. Police officers reportedly tore through private rooms, checking bathrooms and even crawling underneath beds. Karam compared the aggressive search style to operations aimed at terrorists. He warned these actions could further destabilize the local situation.
The group also fired shots at the government for shutting down schools and colleges during the ongoing agitation. Karam argued students should not pay the price for political standoffs. The JFD confirmed it plans to continue its struggle until authorities meet their demands. They insist on delaying the Census until the government implements the National Register of Citizens to protect indigenous populations.
