Imphal: Manipur Police launched a series of raids across the state, netting a proscribed militant, a suspected drug money launderer, and a massive haul of illegal weapons. The operations mark a sharp escalation in the state's security crackdown.
Police caught Mayanglambam Tomba Singh, a 39-year-old cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), at the Tera Urak Checkpoint in Bishnupur. The man, a resident of Churachandpur Bijang Khunou currently staying at the Phubala Relief Camp, carried a 9mm pistol and 11 live rounds. Investigators linked him to the January 8, 2026, fuel station bombing at MS Elidas on Moirang-Kumbi Road. A follow-up raid near Sangaithel Park in Imphal West netted eight more pistols, four rifles, three hand grenades, three detonators, ammo, and tactical gear including bulletproof jackets and wireless sets.
In a separate sweep, security forces seized more weapons along the Akham-Lamdeng stretch in Imphal West on July 25. This haul included two modified .303 rifles, four bolt-action single-barrel guns, four 9mm pistols, one Chinese hand grenade, and 15 cartridges. Officials stated this forms part of the #DisarmForPeace campaign.
Separately, police took 56-year-old Zenngaihniang into custody on July 24 under the NDPS Act. A resident of Gouchinkhup Veng in New Lamka, she allegedly moved drug money to Myanmar. Officers seized Rs 28,78,400 along with five cash registers and a counting machine. "In continuation of an ongoing investigation of a FIR case under ND&PS Act registered at Churachandpur-PS, Manipur Police on 24.07.2026 arrested one Mrs. Zenngaihniang (56) of Gouchinkhup Veng, New Lamka, Churachandpur district," the department confirmed. The Churachandpur district is sensitive because it shares an unfenced border with Myanmar.
