Manipur Cabinet Approves Climate Centre and Fire Safety Overhaul

Imphal: Manipur officials moved to overhaul state infrastructure today. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired the cabinet meeting at the Cabinet Hall in Babupara. The state cabinet officially approved a new State Climate Centre. This facility will operate under the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain 2.0 programme. It aims to sharpen climate resilience and drive scientific urban planning.

The centre provides a dedicated mechanism for sustainable development. It will bake climate-resilient strategies directly into future infrastructure projects. Cabinet members also cleared the Manipur Fire and Emergency Service Ordinance, 2026. This legal framework replaces outdated fire safety rules. Officials expect it to tighten emergency response systems and cut red tape for citizens needing assistance.

The government also signed off on changes to the Unified Zoning and Land Use Regulation Bye-Laws for the Master Plan Areas of Manipur, 2026. These updates simplify regulatory hoops to promote the "ease of doing business." By streamlining development approvals, the state hopes to spur planned urban growth. These policy shifts reflect a broad push to modernize governance and accelerate institutional development across the region.
