Imphal: Tamenglong Headquarters hosted the 95th martyrdom anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang on August 29. The Joint Tribes Council, Manipur, organized the event to honor the Zeliangrong Naga leader. This council represents the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Zeme communities. Supporters gathered at Jadonang Park. They laid floral tributes at the statue of the late leader.
Community leaders and youth representatives attended the ceremony. JTCM General Secretary Dr. Aku Newme praised the man behind the movement. He called him a visionary who fought for his people. "Jadonang was not only a freedom fighter but also a social reformer whose ideals and leadership continue to inspire generations."
The event moved to the Town Convention Hall. Rongmei Naga Council Manipur president KC Savio spoke about the Zeliangrong Movement. He noted that Jadonang wanted to unite the Zeme, Liangmai, Inpui, and Rongmei tribes against British rule. The British executed Jadonang on August 29, 1931.
Speakers demanded more action. Kaningai Riamei of the Christian Heritage Institute pushed for new cultural institutions. He wants youth to study the traditions and languages of the Zeliangrong people. Performers ended the day with folk dances and patriotic songs. The display celebrated a legacy of resistance and Naga unity.
