Imphal: Manipur boxer Mandengbam Jadumani Singh finished with a silver medal in the men's 55kg event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. He lost the final bout against Australia's Jye Dixon by a 5-0 unanimous decision on Saturday, August 1, at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow. Jadumani had moved up from the 50kg weight class to compete in this division.
Jadumani started the gold-medal match strong by taking the first round 3-2. Dixon turned the tide in the second round and maintained his lead through the final frame to seal the win. Despite the loss, the boxer reached the final by sweeping Namibia's Philip Pumulo Mutakela Haoseb 5-0 in the semifinals.
Reflecting on the result, Jadumani stayed focused on his future. "It feels really good. I'm very happy to have won a silver medal in my first Commonwealth Games. Although I didn't achieve exactly what I wanted, I will focus even harder for the next competition and bring home the gold," he said. He plans to return to his training camp at the Army Sports Institute, where he has lived since childhood, to correct his mistakes. He dedicated the medal to his uncle, the Boxing Federation of India, the Sports Authority of India, team coaches, and the Army Sports Institute.
His family in Manipur celebrated his run to the podium. His elder brother, Robinson Mandengbam, noted their deep confidence in Jadumani's ability to reach the final stages of the tournament. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand also honored the athlete. "Though the gold remained just beyond reach, your grit, resilience, and fighting spirit have inspired us all," Khemchand stated.
The state has now contributed four medals to India's total campaign. On the same day, India saw further success in the ring. Preeti Pawar grabbed gold by beating Canada's Scarlett Delgado 5-0, and Jaismine Lamboria also struck gold by defeating Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh by the same margin.
