Kohima: Longleng district administration officials hiked commercial taxi fares this week. Recent natural calamities caused widespread road blockages. The District Disaster Management Authority met Monday to discuss restoration. Restoration work on the main highway is currently ongoing.
Commuters heading to Kohima or Dimapur must now take the Longleng-Tuensang-Chare-Mokokchung route. Authorities strictly limited luggage to 5 kg per person. This keeps weight manageable on difficult terrain. New rates are set at Rs 1,600 for the Longleng-Dimapur trip, Rs 1,500 for Longleng-Kohima, and Rs 600 for Longleng-Tuensang. Normal pricing returns once roads open.
Separately, the administration cleared a 105 km path for light motor vehicles to Mokokchung. The route runs through Auching, Shangjen, Momching, Phampak, Yangpi, Noksen, and Longmisa before hitting NH-2. Drivers must watch for landslides, mudslides, and flash floods.
The administration issued a clear warning to all travelers. "Commuters have been advised to exercise caution while travelling and remain alert for landslides, mudslides and flash floods along the route." Residents in need of help should contact Village Council Chairmen, head gaon buras, or local Village Disaster Management Authorities.
