Kohima: The Entrepreneurs Associates held a health and hygiene session for 112 women street vendors in Kohima on October 12. Hosted at the Red Cross Building, the event teamed up with the Mumbai-based Rnisarg Foundation to push for better menstrual hygiene and waste management practices. Gracy, the operations supervisor for tEA, chaired the meeting, while executive director Neikule Doulo explained the history of the Uplifting Women Street Vendors Programme.
Launched in 2017, the initiative targets the financial and personal struggles faced by women working in local markets. Dr. Lata Ghanshamnani, a co-founder of the Rnisarg Foundation, spent her time teaching the vendors about the environmental impacts of trash. She urged the women to rethink their daily habits. "Waste management is a shared responsibility and that small changes in individual behaviour can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment," Dr. Lata stated.
Dr. Lata appeared alongside yoga therapist Veena Angadi and project head Parvathy. The team emphasized how dirty surroundings eventually lead to poor health. Neichute Doulo, the CEO of tEA, also spoke to the crowd. He pushed the vendors to prioritize their mental and physical health while building capital for their futures. The tEA programme currently operates across Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam. The organization now includes women farmers and aggregators in its outreach efforts to boost economic stability for these vulnerable workers.
