Kohima: Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, handed out certificates of appreciation to local NGOs and CSOs on August 21. The ceremony at the DC conference hall honored philanthropic work performed during the 80th Independence Day celebrations of 2026. Officials want better cooperation. Buchem stressed that the government cannot fix every social issue alone.
He noted that the administration provides institutional support to help these groups reach vulnerable people faster than formal systems. Buchem told the crowd, "We must strive to build a culture where government schemes and community initiatives reinforce each other rather than operate in isolation." He expects ongoing transparency and commitment from all partners.
Thejao Vihienuo, President of the Angami Public Organisation, praised the move. This marks the first time the government has formally recognized such efforts in this manner. Vihienuo noted that while Nagaland has many societies, Kohima holds the fewest, though he believes these specific groups remain highly determined and effective.
The event featured experience sharing from the Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Nagaland Contractor's and Supplier's Union, and the Classic Club. Vishu Rita Krocha, President of the Kohima Press Club, addressed the role of media and civil groups in supporting vulnerable people. Er Seyiekhrietuo Solo chaired the meeting, and Ruopfukuotuo Noudi closed with a vote of thanks.
