Kohima: Nagaland Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen ordered all government departments to draft actionable plans for a plastic-free initiative. The push starts at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat. Officials want departments to set the standard for green practices. During a July 29 meeting at the Secretariat conference hall in Kohima, Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha hammered home the point. Departments must cut out single-use plastics during all official events and functions.
Attendance is also under the microscope. Sinha noted that turnout for Independence Day has dipped in recent years. He expects full attendance from all officers and staff. Departments must submit formal reports confirming their numbers after the event. "Sinha noted that attendance at the Independence Day function has been low in recent years and urged all Administrative Heads of Departments and Heads of Departments to ensure compulsory attendance of their officers and staff."
The session covered more than just plastic bans and parade attendance. Finance Commissioner Kesonyu Yhome reviewed the State SMA balance account and the status of various SASCI projects. Meanwhile, the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department laid out changes to service rules. Principal Secretary Y Kikheto Sema demanded that departments hit their marks on the prescribed calendar of action for state projects. Akubu Meyase, chair of the Comprehensive Manpower Rationalisation Committee, pushed for better human resource optimization across the board. The group finished by tackling various other pressing departmental concerns.
