India and Ghana Move to Bolster Maritime Ties

Shillong: India's High Commissioner designate, Surinder Bhagat, is meeting with top Ghanaian officials to boost ties in the maritime and port sectors. Bhagat met with Major-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, the Acting Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, in Accra on July 14. They talked about ways to grow their partnership through economic engagement.

Last week, Bhagat sat down with Kamal-Deen Ali, Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority. They focused on the safety and well-being of Indian crew members working in Ghanaian waters. They want better coordination between the Indian High Commission and local authorities. The High Commission stated, "India remains committed to further advancing its longstanding partnership with Ghana through stronger economic engagement and mutually beneficial cooperation."

Bhagat arrived in Ghana last month. Second Secretary V.N. Parameswaran and his team greeted him in Accra. India and Ghana share a long history of diplomatic relations. India opened a representative office in Accra in 1953. Full diplomatic relations began in 1957. Both nations aim to keep building on these warm, historical ties.
