Shillong: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Belgian counterpart Maxime Prevot in Brussels on Wednesday. The two discussed expanding cooperation during the India-Belgium Strategic Dialogue. They aim to grow their partnership beyond current bounds. New Delhi sees potential for work in clean energy, digital tech, life sciences, chemicals, logistics, and manufacturing.
Jaishankar stressed that the relationship must evolve. It remains in sync with broader ties between India and the European Union. These connections are becoming increasingly strategic, driven largely by ongoing Free Trade Agreement negotiations. Officials are also pushing for a security of information pact and a mobility framework.
The minister noted that global instability demands closer alignment between nations. The modern world allows no regional isolation for conflicts or economic shocks. Instability in the Gulf, Ukraine, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific impacts every corner of the globe. He noted, "I think both bilaterally and globally there is a strong case for us to engage more."
Economic safety is the current priority. Nations now struggle with market access, connectivity, and dangerous over-reliance on limited production sources. India is working to stabilize and diversify these systems. The government wants to speed up these diplomatic processes to hit targets by next year. Future initiatives include involvement with the Global Gateway and the Horizon Europe research program.
