Itanagar: The India-Myanmar Border Haat at Pangsau Pass is open for business. It sat empty for six years. Arunachal Pradesh Trade and Commerce Minister Nyato Dukam cut the ribbon on July 30 to restart operations. The market, located at Nampong in Changlang district, officially welcomed traders back on July 20, 2026.
Big crowds showed up for the inaugural event. Attendees included Advisor to the Trade and Commerce Department Dr. Mohesh Chai, local MLA Laisam Simai, Trade and Commerce Secretary Bullo Mamung, Director Toko Togur, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Lekhandu Thungon. Local stakeholders also joined the ceremony.
The market runs on a strict schedule. It operates three days every month: the 10th, 20th, and 30th. Officials hope this move will boost economic growth and improve connectivity for folks living along the international line. The project aims to drive border tourism while helping communities exchange goods. According to officials, the initiative will "help promote border tourism and encourage greater cultural interaction between communities on both sides of the international boundary." The state government expects this renewed activity to strengthen long-term economic ties between India and Myanmar.
