Pangsau Pass Border Market Reopens After Six Years

Itanagar: The Pangsau Pass Border Haat at Nampong in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh reopened on July 20, 2026. This market sat dormant for six years. It will now host traders on the 10th, 20th, and 30th of every month.

Located in Pangsau village on the Myanmar side of the border, the site acts as a hub for regional trade. Indian citizens can enter with a Protected Area Permit or local clearance. Visitors swap cash for jade, ethnic foods, textiles, and handicrafts. Local officials noted the market's return aims to build ties. They said, "The resumption of the Border Haat is expected to boost border tourism and enhance trade and cultural exchanges between India and Myanmar."

The market also draws interest to the nearby Lake of No Return. That World War II site sits 12 km inside Myanmar. Friday sessions, dubbed Burma Day, allow Myanmarese villagers to cross into Nampong to trade. Authorities believe this restart will fuel new economic growth for communities living on both sides of the international boundary.
