Itanagar: The historic Pangsau Pass Border Haat in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh resumed operations on July 20, 2026. The market sat empty for six years. It now serves as a key site for trade between India and Myanmar.
Vendors will open shop on the 10th, 20th, and 30th of every month. The bazaar sits in Pangsau village on the Myanmar side, right across from Nampong. Visitors can buy textiles, jade, traditional handicrafts, ethnic foods, and daily goods.
The reopening helps local livelihoods. Indian citizens can enter the site with a Protected Area Permit or other local permissions on designated India Days. Fridays are reserved for Burma Day, allowing Myanmarese villagers to shop on the Indian side of Nampong.
Nampong MLA Laisam Simai toured the site during the reopening to meet with officials and traders. He praised the restart as a way to grow tourism and commerce. "Delighted to share that the market at border haat, Pangsau Pass, Nampong resumed today after a gap of six years," Simai stated. He also noted that "Everyone is welcomed."
The market once thrived on barter and regulated trade. Officials expect the move to draw visitors to the nearby Lake of No Return. That World War II site lies 12 km inside Myanmar. Leaders hope this restart restores the region as a hub for cultural exchange.
