ICAR-KVK Longleng Trains Dungkhao Farmers on Mushroom Farming

Kohima: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Longleng ran a workshop on oyster mushroom farming in Dungkhao village on October 9. The session aimed to turn mushroom production into a reliable income source for rural households. Shubhendu Kumar Behera, a subject matter specialist, led the instruction.

Dr. Kalu Ram offered specific technical advice on post-harvest handling and value addition. His goal was to reduce crop losses and grow profits. The project operated under the direction of the Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK Longleng.

Leaders from nine local self-help groups attended the event. The village council chairman, Y Molim Phom, also provided key support to ensure the training ran smoothly. These group leaders plan to pass their new skills to other farmers in the area to spread the technology.

The farmers asked many questions and showed strong interest in the process. Attendees noted that the program helps boost entrepreneurship and strengthens local self-help groups. One participant stated, "The response highlighted the potential of mushroom farming to strengthen rural livelihoods, promote entrepreneurship and support SHG-led income generation."

The KVK plans to keep bringing scientific farming methods to the district. This work aims to secure livelihoods and improve earnings across Longleng.
