Kohima: The National Service Scheme unit of MGM College visited Kashiram village on October 9. They held the Yuva Sanwad event under the theme My Health, My Pride. The gathering functioned as part of the fourth week of the 100-Week Sankalp Abhiyan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started this nationwide effort on August 2 to create a drug-free generation through four pillars: Prevent, Protect, Recover and Lead.
Dimapur Municipal Council councillor Sentinuklu Jamir attended as chief guest. He told the crowd that building a drug-free society demands collective responsibility and sustained local participation. He pushed the youth to resist substance abuse and help build the nation.
Neimhanu Kulnu, a psychiatric social worker at the District Hospital in Dimapur, delivered the keynote address. She warned that addiction often starts with casual experimentation. People mistakenly think trying drugs once is harmless. She told the group, "Say No to Drugs, Not No to Life." She added that the public must treat those struggling with addiction with compassion instead of shame.
Dr. A. Temsuyanger, a consultant psychiatrist and nodal officer for the Dimapur Mental Health Programme, led a session on mental health. He fielded student questions about the psychological fallout of drug use. He stressed the need for early intervention and professional help. MGM College volunteers also performed a street play to show the consequences of substance abuse. The day ended with an interactive dialogue where local students shared their own ideas for an addiction-free society.
