Kohima: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Longleng opened a Natural Farming Resource Centre in Pongching Village. This site serves as a community hub for sustainable agriculture. Shubhendu Kumar Behera, a specialist in plant pathology, led the project. Dr. Hari Charan Kalita provided oversight as the senior scientist and head.
Farmers now have a local spot for practical training. They will study how to prepare inputs like Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Neemastra, and Agniastra. These concoctions offer eco-friendly ways to protect crops. Officials expect the facility to boost community knowledge through direct demonstrations.
The program aims to train local master trainers. These individuals will then teach their neighbors about better soil health and efficient resource use. The center blends traditional Naga agro-ecological wisdom with modern scientific methods. As the release noted, the initiative focuses on "strengthening community level capacity in sustainable agriculture."
