Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation is cracking down on city eyesores. Officials now demand a 5,000 rupee fine from anyone caught plastering unauthorized posters on public property. This rule hits anyone using walls, electric poles, bridges, and government structures for unapproved ads.

The city looks messy. Posters and promotional materials clutter public infrastructure, causing long-term damage. GMC officials want this practice stopped immediately. They state the penalty serves as a deterrent, noting, "The penalty is aimed at discouraging the practice of illegally using public spaces for advertisements and publicity campaigns."

Authorities are broadening their reach beyond posters. Teams also monitor the streets for littering, illegal dumping, and general misuse of public spaces. As the city expands, managing these areas becomes harder. The corporation expects these stricter enforcement measures to protect infrastructure and tidy up the urban environment. Residents must now stick to designated ad zones and obtain proper permissions for all promotional materials.
