Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has issued a strict order blocking all leave for employees working on Census 2027. Staff members must secure permission from the competent authority before taking any time off. Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Chinmoy Prakash Phookan released the directive on July 17.
Heads of Departments must enforce the rules. The policy covers all trainers, supervisors, enumerators, and other assigned officials. Nobody gets a pass. The administration intends to keep the national headcount moving forward without staff shortages or delays.
The agency also issued a stern warning regarding the handling of sensitive paperwork. Employees face severe legal consequences if they mess with official data. The order notes that "violations of the Census Act, 1948 attract stringent penalties."
Under Section 11 of that law, officials caught tampering with records risk serious punishment. Guilty parties face up to three years of imprisonment. They may also incur a fine of up to Rs 1,000. These penalties can apply individually or together. All branch officers and census personnel have received the notice to ensure total compliance.
