Agartala: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India yanked the licence of M/s Matri Drinking Water in Tripura’s Gomati district. The move came after a customer complained about foreign particles found in their water. Inspectors raided the plant and found a disaster.

The facility was a wreck. Workers stored bottles directly on the floor next to non-food items. The plant had flaking paint, damaged walls, and thick cobwebs throughout the processing area. Inspectors discovered rusted chemical containers and a corroded reverse osmosis tank still in use. This equipment poses a massive health risk.

Record keeping was non-existent. The company failed to track sanitation, pest management, preventive maintenance, internal audits, and training for staff. An official statement noted: "The action was taken against M/s Matri Drinking Water following a complaint alleging the presence of foreign materials in packaged drinking water."

Regulators pulled the permit with immediate effect. The FSSAI insists it will keep chasing companies that cut corners on basic safety. For now, the Gomati unit stays dark.
