Flash floods wreck Arunachal's Leparada district

Itanagar: A cloudburst and flash floods ripped through Arunachal Pradesh’s Leparada district on June 28. Swollen rivers tore through the landscape, obliterating roads, bridges, and agricultural land. Several villages now sit in isolation. Surface transport links snapped under the pressure of the rising water.

MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi toured the wreckage across her constituency. She reported massive losses to wet rice cultivation, trees, and livestock. Many local orange orchards suffered further damage from secondary landslides. Dirchi described the chaos: "The streams and rivulets took the shape of inflated rivers as a huge volume of water gushed through them, washing away acres of wet rice cultivation, trees, mithuns and whatever came its way."

The recovery effort faces a long road. Many paddy fields remain buried under thick blankets of silt, sand, and stones, stripping farmers of their income. Dirchi is pushing the state government to release restoration funds on a war footing. Zila Parishad Chairman Nyamar Riba also demanded immediate intervention to support the displaced.

Local officials are trying to fix power lines and water supplies. Dari Circle, the hardest hit area, remains the primary focus. Circle Officer Nyato Daji confirmed that crews are working to reopen roads. A Karnataka-based NGO has joined government teams to distribute relief supplies to the victims.
