Itanagar: A violent cloudburst hit Arunachal Pradesh on June 28, unleashing flash floods that devastated the Leparada district. Infrastructure took a direct hit. Roads and bridges washed away, cutting off vital transport links across the region.
Leparada MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi toured the wreckage and described the aftermath. "The streams and rivulets took the shape of inflated rivers as a huge volume of water gushed through them, washing away acres of wet rice cultivation, trees, mithuns and whatever came its way," Dirchi said. Landslides also hammered local orange orchards.
Dirchi wants the state government to fund repairs on a war footing. Zila Parishad Chairman Nyamar Riba echoed these concerns, demanding immediate help for the locals. Dari Circle stands as the hardest hit area.
Circle Officer Nyato Daji confirmed that crews are scrambling to restore drinking water and electricity. The damage spans across destroyed paddy fields now buried in thick layers of silt, sand, and stones. Officials are working alongside a Karnataka based non-governmental organisation to distribute relief. Long-term recovery plans remain in flux as the district faces a massive loss of livelihood.
