Imphal: Relatives of 25-year-old Thokchom Ongbi Binaroi staged a protest at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal on October 13. Tensions boiled over. The crowd smashed chairs, flower pots, and window panes after Binaroi died following the birth of her child.

She checked into the facility that Monday. The delivery went through safely, but Binaroi stayed inside the operation theatre for an extended period. Her husband reported she was bleeding heavily when doctors finally brought her out. Staff moved her to the Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday morning, but she did not survive.

The husband demanded answers from the hospital staff. He claimed the medical team failed to stabilize his wife and pointed to potential lapses in care. "Doctors later informed us that her condition could not be stabilised," he said. Hospital officials did not provide a comment regarding the allegations or the incident.
