Villagers Launch Boycott Against MLA Paonam Brojen

Imphal: Residents of Tentha and Mairenkhul took to the streets with torches and placards to demand the resignation of Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen. The rally ignited at Tentha Thongkhong Bazaar and wound through Tentha Khunou and Mairenkhul. Protesters carried signs calling for a boycott and the MLA to step down.

The outrage stems from comments Brojen reportedly made on September 30 during the 130th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot. Participant Naorem Kabilal stated, "The public decision to oppose the MLA was taken in response to his alleged remarks during the 130th birth anniversary observance of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot on September 30."

Locals claim Brojen boasted that the violence in Manipur would not have happened if he held a ministerial position. They accuse him of implying the crisis was his own orchestration. Protesters also claim he spent three years in Delhi and aligned himself with Kuki militants. Residents have officially banned the MLA from entering Tentha and Mairenkhul. They are now urging the rest of Manipur to join the boycott.
