RIMS Imphal Marks World Breastfeeding Week With Public Awareness Drive

Imphal: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal held an awareness drive for World Breastfeeding Week 2026 today at its OPD complex. The event involved the College of Nursing and the Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur. It falls under the Special Manthan initiative of the Kayakalp program.

RIMS Director Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma inaugurated the session alongside Medical Superintendent Prof. N. Sanjib Singh and other faculty members. Staff, students, and local security personnel attended the meeting. Sharma spoke to the crowd about the impact of the practice on early development. "Breastfeeding is one of the most cost-effective interventions for ensuring healthy child growth and development, providing optimal nutrition, strengthening infants' immunity, and offering significant health benefits to mothers while contributing to a healthier society."

The event featured demonstration stalls and educational models. Experts gave out materials to help patients and their families understand the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. Prof. Kh. Pratima Devi from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology showed a video presentation. The session focused on the nutritional, developmental, and environmental gains of the practice. Organizers reported high public interest in the display.
