AMUCO Protesters Demand Political Resolution to Manipur Conflict

Imphal: Civil society groups gathered at Pheiyeng Keithel in Imphal West to demand a definitive political solution for the Manipur crisis. The protest brought together the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation, All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Committee on Human Rights, and the Manipuri Students’ Federation. Local bodies including the Imphal West District United Clubs’ Organisation and Rural United Clubs’ Organisation also took part.

Speakers blamed the central government for weakening the state’s foundations. AMUCO Secretary Organisation Laishram Krishnachandra claimed national policies eroded the political, economic, and cultural standing of the region since its 1949 merger with India. Security in the hill areas remains a point of failure, he said.

Krishnachandra rejected the idea that this is merely a communal spat. He warned that framing the issue that way helps those who want to tear the state apart. "The crisis should not be reduced to a conflict between communities," he stated. He argued these narratives distract the public from broader political agendas.

Leaders including AMUCO Secretary General Pratap Leishangthem and vice-president Ksh. Rajen addressed the crowd. They pushed for unity to protect local interests. The coalition insists that collective action is the only way to ensure future development and lasting security for the people of Manipur.
