KCP Apunba Orders 12-Hour Manipur Shutdown for Black Day

Imphal: The Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Apunba announced a 12-hour total shutdown across Manipur for October 15. The group labels the date Black Day to protest the loss of the state's independence. It stems from the signing of the Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949, and the formal merger declaration on October 15 of that year.

The strike starts at 6 am and runs until 6 pm. Publicity Secretary Punsirol Meitei says the movement aims to reassert the right to self-determination. The group explicitly states that "Manipur's sovereignty was taken away" following the 1949 merger. They demand the restoration of that independence.

Public life will halt. However, the outfit granted exemptions for medical emergencies, fire services, and water supply. Essential services, news media, and religious or customary practices may also continue without interference.
