Agartala: The family of Zubaida Begum, a 10th-grade student from Irani village, is taking their fight to the High Court. They refuse to accept the official post-mortem results. They believe the girl was murdered. Zubaida left for school on July 10 but never came home.
Her family filed a missing person report at the Irani Police Station that same evening. Searchers found her body hanging in the Hirachhara Tea Estate forest the next morning. Relatives point to injury marks on her body as proof of a violent struggle. They claim she was not ill and reject any suicide narrative.
Police arrested a juvenile suspect from Fatikroy, but the family views this as a half-measure. They argue that other people were involved in the killing. Activists Ahmed Ali, Sushanta Debnath, and Sumal Bauri joined the family at a press conference to demand a deeper probe. Local residents want the actual killers brought to justice. They say the investigation so far is a failure.
Fear has gripped the community since the discovery. Parents are worried about the safety of their children. The family confirmed their legal path forward to ensure the state identifies everyone responsible. As the mother put it, they are seeking "a comprehensive and impartial probe" to find the truth.
