East Jaintia Hills Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Rape

Shillong: A Special POCSO Court judge sent Jimi Bareh to prison for 22 years. Judge B. Khriam handed down the sentence on July 21, 2026. The court found Bareh guilty of raping a minor, leading to a fine of Rs 50,000 against him.

The case began back in December 2020 at the Khliehriat Women Police Station. WPI O. Tyngkan handled the investigation. Tyngkan filed the charge sheet on November 18, 2021.

The court convicted Bareh under Section 376(2)(f) of the IPC. He also faced charges under Sections 5(i)(ii), 5(n), and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. "Jimi Bareh to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor," the court stated.
