Shillong: The 135th IndianOil Durand Cup trophies arrived in Tura on Wednesday. The Indian Armed Forces and the Meghalaya government organized the roadshow to hype up the upcoming tournament. This is the third time the Durand Cup, President’s Cup, and Shimla Trophy have appeared in Tura. It highlights Meghalaya's deep ties to Asia's oldest football competition.

The procession kicked off at P.A. Sangma Stadium in Dakopgre. It crawled through Nazing Bazar, Araimile, Tetengkol, Hawakhana, and Ringrey. The tour finally stopped at Chandmari Playground. Local young footballers, the Black Falcon Motorcycle Group, and The Tribal National Riders led the way.

Officials including Assistant Commissioner Saurabh Suman, Tura Municipal Board Chairman J.D. Sangma, Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer Lt. Colonel Aibanjop Sooting (Retd.), and District Sports Officer Saljagring M. Marak attended the event. The Indian Armed Forces also sent representatives. Suman praised the tournament's history during his address.

"It is a matter of pride for the people of Tura and Meghalaya to host the trophy showcase once again," Suman said. He noted that the tournament predates the FIFA World Cup. Suman told local players to train hard and reach for the top. Organizers want to honor the legacy of the sport while inspiring local youth.

The 135th IndianOil Durand Cup runs from July 25 to August 23. Matches will take place across five states, including Meghalaya.
