Kohima: The College of Nursing at District Hospital Dimapur hosted a regional seminar on July 16. Nurses came from 12 districts across Nagaland. They gathered to focus on compassionate care. The event title was The Healing Power of Presence: The Forgotten Art of Nursing.
Attendees included Community Health Officers, Staff Nurses, and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives. They arrived from Sub-Centres, Health and Wellness Centres, Community Health Centres, and Primary Health Centres. Staff from District Hospitals and private facilities in Peren, Longleng, Medziphema, Noklak, Wokha, Zunheboto, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Kohima, Tuensang, Mokokchung, and Dimapur filled the room.
Nchumbeni Y Jungio, a Clinical Psychologist at CIHSR, delivered the keynote. She explained the science behind therapeutic presence. She told the crowd, "Emphasising the need to treat patients as subjects and not objects."
Prof Khumjanbeni Murry from the College of Nursing at CIHSR shared ways to use these methods in daily practice. She pushed for more compassion in patient care. Bendangsangla R, Principal of the School of Nursing, District Hospital Dimapur, gave the welcome address. Limasungla Aier, an Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing, DHD, led the valedictory session. Lalthanzami from the Nagaland Nursing Council observed the event. Molungnenla Imchen, an Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing, DHD, chaired the seminar.
