Kohima: Dimapur and Peren officials held coordination meetings on July 27 to prepare for the 80th Independence Day celebration on August 15, 2026. Sub Divisional Officer Wiridin chaired the session at the DC Conference Hall in Dimapur. The group reviewed the proposed program and assigned logistical duties to government departments. Officers emphasized the need for tight cooperation between stakeholders to pull off the event.

Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru led a separate planning session at the Peren DC Conference Hall. He set a firm tone for the staff. "Independence Day is one of the most significant national occasions," Meru said, urging officials to treat the event as a top priority. The meeting covered parade logistics, cultural acts, security, medical aid, sound systems, and sanitation.

Peren officials scheduled a mass social work event for August 7, 2026. The Executive Engineer for PWD (R&B) will oversee the operation, supported by the EAC (Sadar) as the liaison officer. Attendance at the Independence Day ceremony is now mandatory for all departments. Meru also expanded the exhibition stall requirement, moving past the old focus on Agriculture, Allied, and Forest departments to include every department in the district.
