Guwahati: Nurul Amin Ahmed, the headmaster of Kukiladanga High School, allegedly beat more than 50 students on September 11. The violence erupted in Assam's Dhubri district over a missing set of tree plantation photos. Ahmed demanded proof of a drive held after Independence Day. He had previously instructed the Class 9 pupils not to show their mobile phone images, claiming he would collect them later.
Pressure mounted when the Education Department called the school asking for the evidence. When students could not produce the photos on demand, Ahmed caned them. Out of 82 students in the class, over 50 suffered injuries. Panic gripped the community as parents rushed their children to local health centers. Two students, Sabina Yasmin and Rupsana Begum, required transfer to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital. Other victims include Marjina Khatun, Rabiya Khatun, Ayesha Siddika, Marami Khatun, Atifa Khatun, Nurnehar, Mofida Khatun, Arifatun Nesa Firdousi, Anjuma Khatun, and Ruksana Khatun.
Local residents and parents expressed fury at the corporal punishment. They demanded the headmaster face consequences. One source noted the community's response: "Parents and local residents have expressed outrage over the alleged corporal punishment and demanded strict administrative and legal action against the headmaster." Officials have been notified and the investigation continues.
