Agartala: Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman stood his ground in Agartala on Saturday. He demanded police let a bulldozer loose on him rather than stop his party from hosting a scheduled event. The standoff erupted in front of Agartala City Centre. The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress and NSUI organized the gathering to broadcast a live speech from Rahul Gandhi during the Chhatron Ki Goonj event in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Police and Agartala Municipal Corporation officials blocked workers while they prepped the site. Authorities claimed the party needed additional municipal clearance to build temporary structures. Preparations stalled until Roy Barman arrived and initiated a heated verbal exchange with the officials on the street.
Roy Barman pushed back against the sudden requirement for extra paperwork. He questioned if the ruling party faced the same scrutiny. He told the officials: "If we are violating any law, register cases against us and if required bring the bulldozer, let it loose on us." The leader insisted the party held all necessary police permits. He confirmed the broadcast would proceed exactly as planned.
