Government Finalizes Bidder for Shillong Polo Commercial Complex

Shillong: The Meghalaya government finally secured a bidder for the long-delayed Polo Commercial Complex in Shillong. This comes after three previous efforts to lease the Rs 100.33-crore Smart City facility failed to attract interest.

Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar confirmed the selection on Thursday. Four parties entered the latest tender process. The winning firm beat the revised reserve price of Rs 35 per square foot by offering more than Rs 50. Dhar noted the rate is strong. "The tender has already been finalised and the highest bidder has been selected. He quoted more than Rs 50 per square foot, which is a good rate," Dhar told reporters.

The project sat empty for over a year. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the building in July 2025. Officials lowered the reserve price to improve commercial viability before the fourth round of bidding. Dhar signed off on the file recently but did not name the winning firm. Operations will start once the parties sign the agreement and clear final paperwork.
