Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman predicts BJP defeat in 2028 Tripura polls

Agartala: Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman says the BJP will lose power in the 2028 Assembly elections. The former minister made the claim on Sunday, September 13. He believes voters are fed up with the current administration.

Barman stated the Congress party is going it alone. There is no alliance with the CPIM. The party plans to fight future battles solo. He noted that Village Committee elections focus on tribal issues. Other matters dominate TTAADC and state assembly contests.

The MLA alleged the ruling party used threats to suppress opposition. Around 250 Congress candidates were forced to pull out of the Village Committee races. Nearly 35 percent of seats went to the BJP without a contest. "This is not in favour of democracy, but this has been done," Barman said. He claims a fear psychosis now grips the state.

Barman insists these local results do not signal future trends. He predicts a massive shift as the 2028 vote nears. "Nobody is happy with the BJP. The unemployed, government employees, daily wagers, farmers—nobody is happy," he added. He expects citizens to vent their anger at the ballot box soon.
