Guwahati: Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora visited Batadrava Than on September 17. This shrine marks the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev. She sought blessings there shortly after filing nomination papers for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll. The seat sits empty now. Former representative Pradyut Bordoloi left the post to join the Assam Legislative Assembly.
Bora expects a win. She told reporters, "people are the ultimate authority in a democracy." She vowed that her party would avoid playing politics with the historic site. Instead, she pointed to her history as a former legislator to drum up support. She reminded voters she pushed the Assam Legislative Assembly to label floods a national issue.
The candidate also leaned into her track record on women's empowerment. She claimed her previous work as an MLA directly addressed the struggles of local women. Meanwhile, she pivoted to attack the opposition. Bora alleged the BJP puts minority communities under heavy pressure. She claimed this intimidation tactics forced some members to join the ruling party. She also accused the BJP of hypocrisy. Despite past hostility toward minorities, she says the party now begs for their votes to secure the Nagaon seat. Candidates across the board are now scrambling to reach voters as the campaign heats up.
