Guwahati: James Kerketta, a Senior District Administrative Assistant in the Baksa District Commissioner's Office, earned the District-Level Lok Sewa Award 2026. The Assam government recognized his exemplary service to the public during a ceremony held Wednesday, August 5. Officials gathered at the District Commissioner's Office in Mushalpur to honor his work.
The event coincided with Lok Kalyan Divas, marking the 76th death anniversary of Assam's first Chief Minister, Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi. District Commissioner Kimnei Changsan, Senior Superintendent of Police Ujjal Pratim Baruah, and various department heads paid their respects to the late leader with floral tributes. They held a meeting to discuss his contributions to the state.
Changsan addressed the assembled crowd of Additional Deputy Commissioners, Circle Officers, and Assistant Commissioners. She emphasized the need for transparent, citizen-centric government. "Lok Kalyan Divas serves as a reminder of the responsibility of public administration to ensure citizen-centric, transparent and accountable governance," Changsan said.
She challenged local officials to push services to the last mile and bolster public trust. Kerketta's award is one component of the broader Lok Sewa Award 2026 and Karmashree Award 2026 initiative. This state program identifies government employees who show dedication in their daily roles.
