ATTSA Demands Crackdown on Unsafe Labor Transport in Tinsukia

Guwahati: The Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) wants the Tinsukia district administration to stop moving laborers in dangerous goods vehicles. On Tuesday, the Doomdooma Regional Committee sent a formal memorandum to the Assistant Labour Commissioner and the District Transport Officer. They demanded immediate enforcement to protect workers.

ATTSA Doomdooma Regional Committee president Irot Tanti highlighted the constant threat to workers. "Every day, labourers are being carried in goods vehicles in violation of safety norms. We have repeatedly raised the issue because it endangers the lives of workers travelling in search of livelihood," Tanti said.

The group noted that officials previously issued warnings after a fatal crash in Arunachal Pradesh killed laborers from Assam. Despite those notices, illegal trips remain common throughout the Doomdooma region. Tanti blamed vehicle owners, contractors, and middlemen for the ongoing practice. He warned that negligence guarantees future tragedies.

The association called for the Labour Department and transport officials to perform regular joint checks. They want authorities to verify all transport documentation and prosecute anyone violating safety laws. ATTSA maintains that employers and the government share the duty of providing safe travel for all workers.
